Make a line-by-line list
Record each person’s usual locations, phone, travel and data use. A child’s first phone and a home worker’s connection can require different controls. A group arrangement is useful only if the underlying service suits each line.
Account ownership matters
Check who can authorise changes and who is responsible for the payment. Ask what happens to a group benefit if a lead line leaves. Device obligations can end at different times even when payments appear together.
Controls have different jobs
A spending cap is not a parental filter, and a data allowance is not necessarily a cap on every charge. Check roaming, premium services and purchases made through an app store separately. Explain the settings to the person using the device.
Plan for future changes
Consider a child reaching adulthood, a person moving abroad or an individual number leaving the group. Ask how ownership and transfers are handled before the situation arises. Keep each line’s important dates rather than one household renewal note.
