Where Three sits today
Three UK and Vodafone UK joined under VodafoneThree when their merger completed in May 2025. That corporate change is not a promise that every old contract receives every new feature. Three still publishes its own account, roaming and device guidance. For a customer, the useful documents are the contract held on the account and any specific notice of change—not an assumption based on a shared parent company.
Choose the right kind of connection
Three lists monthly phone SIMs, PAYG data packs and data-only products alongside handset plans. A router SIM and a phone SIM may serve different purposes. If this will be your main number, check voice calling and text support before focusing on data. With a phone purchase, identify the device repayment and airtime components. The repayment period, service minimum term and upgrade date need not describe the same obligation.
What to investigate in a data plan
A large domestic allowance is useful only when the connection performs where you need it. For a commuting phone, test a call at the platform and mobile data inside the train when practical; for home use, test the actual room. A strong outdoor signal can become weak through building materials. Check the coverage and current network-status tools separately: one estimates service, while the other helps identify a reported interruption.
Installing a SIM or eSIM
Three provides separate physical-SIM and eSIM support. Check your exact model and whether your product is eligible before requesting a replacement. Keep Wi-Fi available during installation. If the phone holds a personal and a work line, choose the intended default data line after setup; otherwise background traffic may continue on the wrong account. An activation code should stay between you and the official provider. This guidance line does not need it.
A useful comparison starts with what you need the connection to do.
Roaming deserves its own decision
Three’s roaming help includes travel products and destination checks. Do not infer your allowance from a friend’s Three plan: joining date, tariff and travel entitlement can matter. Ask what activates any daily charge, whether a pass is time-limited and what happens after included data. Travelling overseas and calling an overseas number from Britain are different activities. Check both if you use the phone to stay in touch with family abroad.
A router is a separate test
Three home and mobile broadband use radio connectivity. Position, indoor reception and peak-time demand affect the result. Try a permitted router location near a window, then test an upload and a video meeting rather than relying only on a download reading. Check the return period, equipment obligations and whether a specialist work connection has requirements the service cannot meet. Continuous household use can be very different from occasional phone browsing.
The account, the app and the bill
The Three app links account management, usage and billing. Three+ rewards are a different purpose from checking your contract. Set the phone’s usage-counter dates to match the billing cycle if you want a useful comparison; recent usage may still arrive later in the account. When a bill changes, distinguish airtime, device payments, extras and occasional usage. Ask which item changed and why before accepting an explanation based only on the total.
Before joining or leaving
Obtain the contract summary and keep the current phone agreement. A PAC transfers a number; it does not forgive a device balance. Once a transfer completes, test incoming texts and calls from another network as well as outgoing service. Three can investigate a private account or transfer fault; zoolrox can only explain general steps. Three is worth investigating when its local reception and mobile-data options match your routine, with particular care around indoor performance and travel terms.
